Maria A. Pallante
President and CEO of the Association of American PublishersMaria A. Pallante is the President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers (AAP), a membership organization that represents the legal, policy, and business interests of book and journal publishers in the United States, including trade, education, professional, and scholarly publishers. She was appointed by the Board of Directors on January 17, 2017. Pallante is a recognized leader in the field of intellectual property. From June 1, 2011 through October 29, 2016, she served as United States Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyrights Office. In this role, she administered an increasingly complex legal system of programs, practices, and regulations and assisted executive branch agencies with trade, treaties, and litigation. Pallante was a key advisor to the U.S. Congress, working closely with lawmakers to evaluate the efficacy and balance of the Copyright Act; address issues at the intersection of law, business, and technology; and modernize the national copyright system. Under her leadership, the Copyright Office produced extensive policy studies, legislative recommendations, and strategic plans, working with a vast stakeholder community and thousands of public comments.

Professor of Philosophy at Calvin College
and the author of You Are What You LoveJames K. A. Smith is professor of philosophy at Calvin College, where he holds the Gary and Henrietta Byker Chair in Applied Reformed Theology and Worldview. Trained as a philosopher with a focus on contemporary French thought, Smith has expanded on that scholarly platform to become an engaged public intellectual and cultural critic. An award-winning author and widely-traveled speaker, he has emerged as a thought leader with a unique gift of translation, building bridges between the academy, society, and the church. The author of a number of influential books, Smith also regularly writes for magazines and newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Slate, First Things, Christianity Today, Books & Culture, and The Hedgehog Review. He serves as editor-in-chief of Comment magazine.

Ingram Content GroupPhil Ollila is Chief Content Officer of Ingram Content Group. Phil is responsible for Ingram’s publisher-facing businesses and has played a key role in the transformation of Ingram from a traditional book wholesaler to a fully-integrated content distribution services company. He leads a number of Ingram business units, including Lightning Source sales, Ingram Publisher Services, digital distribution through CoreSource®, wholesale merchandising, and Ingram marketing. At Ingram, Phil has also served as Senior Vice President of Ingram Book Group, President of Ingram Publisher Services, and President of Ingram Library Services. Prior to joining Ingram, Phil spent 12 years at Borders Group where his last position was Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising. Phil spent 16 years in active and reserve positions with the U. S. Army. He received his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
